As I was changing roles, I was turning over my company laptop. I thought about buying a full size notebook, but decided to give this netbook a try.

I custom ordered mine thru HP. It seems most of the HP 311’s sold in the stores had the Atom N270. Well the Atom N280 is only a upgrade option. Not much difference probably in performance, but a little helps.

I also ordered the netbook with xp and only 1gb of ram, and decided to add the 2gb ram upgrade myself.

My order in all, came in under 0.

For browsing, and most applications I say this netbook works just fine. For portable machines I usually prefer the “eraser point” mouse control over the touchpad. And this netbook only confirms that feeling. If you tend to rest your palms as you type, you’ll find yourself accidentally tapping the touchpad and moving your cursor around. Palms up, wrists straight, they keyboard works pretty well. The mouse buttons are a bit stiff and have a loud click sound when in use. Eventually I forget about it, but it may be a minor annoyance for some.

The construction feels pretty solid. The 11.3 size is probably the sweetspot. It is small enough that it is very portable and lightweight, yet easier to manage and use than the 10″ netbooks.

As a gamer, I’m a bit disappointed in the 3-D performance. That is more a reflection of the ATOM processor. It does however handle most of the streaming video and ripped DVD performance that other netbooks can not handle. That is a nice point for me. This machine seems to be the perfect travel rig.

Battery life is pretty good, as I can get about 6 hours of run time. The LCD screen is a little glossy, but colors are nice and is an improvement from the notebooks I’ve used in the past.

Ultimately, there are more capable gaming machines but they are not nearly as portable. I give the product overall a 4 star rating. It will not replace a more powerful notebook, but it fills most duties. I’m sure somewhere down the line there will be a netbook with more video capabilities but it is hard to find a machine with the perfect size, power and battery life.

I’ve considered trading to a more powerful machine, but the size is what makes me want to keep this netbook. It’s just powerful enough to satisfy most of my needs.

1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor (512 KB L2 Cache, 533 MHz FSB)

2 GB DDR2 RAM (1 Dimm), Max supported: 3 GB

250GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive

11.6″ Diagonal HD LED BrightView Widescreen Display (1366 x 768), NVIDIA ION LE for Windows 7 with up to 895MB total graphics memory

Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium, Up to 6.25 Hours of Battery Life

The Internet is at the center of modern life keeping you connected and informed through email, IMs, RSS feeds, social networking sites and Search. Keeping up often requires time shifting with companion devices like netbooks. Powered by energy-efficient Intel Atom processors, the HP Mini 311 is optimized for Web access and can handle standard productivity apps - but is light enough to carry everywhere at just 3.22 lbs. Its 16:9 11.6-Inch diagonal HD LED BrightView display makes viewing HD content and two documents side by side possible. The 92 percentage of full-size keyboard enables much more efficient and comfortable use than texting (or typing on smartphone keyboards) for most. The touchpad has buttons at the bottom for intuitive use. The HP Mini 311 is the perfect device for staying productive, informed, in touch and entertained on the go.

Samsung NC10-14GB 10.2-Inch Blue Netbook - Up to 8 Hours of Battery Life Review

Basically the worst things about this product is the speakers which is underneath the computer itself. Without headphones it at best can give you an impression of what going on but nothing more than barely getting by. I don’t mind using headphones but have found a few applications I’d rather not like when multiple people are needing to listen.

Also this product all of a sudden will open a new browser or window or increase/decrease the size of the screen. Often this happens when typing fairly fast but I’m sure I’m not hitting a key in error, it’s just a strange glitch.

Other than these faults the computer is great. The web cam and mic are surprising good. The memory is more than enough for most peoples uses. The laptop is super lite and easy to travel with. 6 to 8 hour battery life comes in handy all the time. I like the hot keys helping me from everything from increasing the volume to darkening the screen at a punch of a button.

If I’d have one advice buy the newer version of this computer. It has the speakers on the screen facing the user and has a bigger keyboard. I think it is the NC120. A friend of mine bought it and is super pleased.

Hopefully they have also fixed the other kinks. For the money its about the best option out there as others brands in this price range tend to run a little chintzy.

10.2″ Wide, 1024 x 600 WSVGA , 220 nits

Intel Atom processor N270, 1.6 GHz, 533 MHz Front Side Bus, 512 KB Level 2 Cache

The NC10 Netbook by Samsung is ideal for users looking for a low-cost, highly mobile solution that is aimed at “consuming” data via the Internet versus “creating” data. Key System Benefits - Easy to take with you whether it’s around the house, the campus or wherever one might travel; provides significant performance capabilities to wander the Internet and take care of basic productivity applications; enables one to view the Internet in full screen without compromise in a clear and comfortable display; maximum storage capacity for everything you download from the web; provides maximum system performance for basic web browsing and limited system functionality; enhances system performance without adding unnecessary system overhead; provides a great balance of price and performance.

What do you know about the notebook industry? Do you know the original equipment manufacturer?

But what is a laptop computer original equipment manufacturer (OEM)?

Today, the producers who think their machines are installed and are very rare. Transmitted Acer, Compaq, Toshiba, Apple, Dell, Sony and others, at least the production to third parties.

Acer to sell Man as a model drawn directly from the fields of "real" manufacturer of notebooks, after some final aestheticImprovements.

True manufacturers such as Quanta and Compal (which is not Compaq) alone, almost 50% of notebooks out there running in the world. The rest is between Wistron, Asus, Uniwill, Clevo, FIC, AOpen, ECS, etc., divided

The research and development section is mostly made in Taiwan, but around 50% of world production, be made in China!

It should be noted that certain cases are very amusing, like the Asus, the manufacturer produces laptops for third (Sonyand Apple, for example), for its own brand, but also its own models, "with no brand."

The series of Acer TravelMate 29x comes straight from the tap CL5x of Compal. But the machines like TravelMate 800 and 8000 profit of specific design of Acer (but we do not know who they produced).

OEM notebooks directly from the manufacturer to wholesalers or retailers. A bit like barebone PC, a piece of equipment is already in the "case" included. In the case of the laptop, theyAll except: processor, memory, hard disk, optical reader, and WiFi.

Everyone has a notebook or a laptop now. Before buying a notebook agenda, but a few hints to help you in the right direction. The first thing to decide is the size of the screen. In general, laptops that are thin and light 11 is “ to 13 “ have screens. Sometimes 14 “ but that will come in the category of main laptops.

The usual notebooks no optical drive as the drive takes up more space, has more weight andmore power. Battery life for these notebooks is usually 5 to 8 hours. The larger screen notebooks have a 14 “ to 15 “ wide screen displays and some even have a 17-screen “ spreading almost to the desktop replacement category. The thin and light weighing 5lbs or less while the heavier ones vary from 5lbs to 9lbs.

Most thin and light notebooks will be 1 GB of RAM, but this makes the notebook only functional. later, it is possible to later upgrade it to 2GBon their own. However, you must make sure that the notebook has a 1 GB module already installed with a free memory bay.

Sometimes, cut costs, these notebooks have installed two 512MB modules, which would involve the purchase of two 1GB modules and replace the 512 MB ones too. This is quite expensive. The 512 modules are still available, but it also makes most tasks very slowly. Also you need to open the technical capability to your laptop to install the module. Therefore,it makes more sense in a 2 GB now go even a hard, it might cost a little more.

Thin and light notebooks have dual core processors, power-efficient. This means that it will not operate to the highest possible rate to save power. A Core2 Duo Processor T-series is available in most mainstream notebooks and desktop replacement. This is more expensive than the AMD Turion processor offers better value for money.

When choosing a notebook, it is not to be necessarychoosy about the hard drive, but it should be enough space for your storage needs are. Notebook drives generally made up of 200 GB which is more than adequate for most users, but there are a few laptops, two hard drive bays for up to 400 GB of memory.

As for as graphics, it really depends on the user of the notebook. Some laptops offer integrated power cards that are efficient. These are not too powerful, and can barely function as DVD playback. The thin andbright usually have this card. Some may be better for the media playback and the occasional games, but they are not suitable for long term gaming.

With the exception of a few laptops, most notebooks come equipped with an optical drive. The normal choice for such a drive is the kind that can create DVD-RW discs and movies and burn backups.

The operating system comes with Vista, but XP still offered by some companies. If you're using XP, a 512 MB is absolutely necessary1GB, if it can not be obtained. Regarding Vista, a 1GB is a must but a 2-GB is of course is the preferred memory size.

Laptops are constantly updated, and there are laptops with biometric security features which are useful especially for business travelers. The purchase of a notebook is not a difficult task if the concepts are clear.

The HP Mini 210 is a great netbook overall. It features a Intel GMA 3150 which is capable of streaming video over sites such as youtube, hulu, etc; it doesn’t stream any type of HD that great, however. I was even able to play older games such as Deus Ex, Aliens vs. Predator and even Unreal Tournament just fine. If you can’t afford to pay the extra 0 for the HP 311 which sports a Nvidia ION, this netbook will serve you well.

The keyboard is 93% full size and is great to type on. I’m a computer science student and I was delightfully surprised to see how comfortable it was to program on this netbook. If you plan to do any type of creative writing or programming, this netbook is ideal for that.

I admit, it’s taking me awhile to get use to the slower execution speeds and limits of multitasking with a netbook, but this HP seems to be faster then other netbooks I’ve tried. As long as you aren’t trying to perform more then 2-3 tasks at a time, all is well and speedy.

My major grip is with the touchpad. The left and right buttons aren’t independent of the touchpad itself; you can move the mouse if you move your finger within either click buttons. I like to keep my finger on the left button as a I navigate the touchpad with my other finger, but on this netbook it causes the pointer to jump around the screen. It’s just going to take a bit to change my style, but I would have preferred two buttons that were separate from the actual touchpad.

Battery is life is advertised at 4 hours, but I’ve seen around 3 thus far. As soon as a replacement 6-cell battery is released, I will be purchasing and that should satisfy my needs.

4 out of 5 stars for this netbook due to the touchpad and inability to stream HD videos properly.
